Make COP Count is an informal group of representatives from different faith communities working together on advocacy, hospitality and action. It was initially formed in relation to the UK’s role as president of COP26 – and is now focussed on COP27, taking place in Egypt from 6-18 November 2022. We believe the global response to the climate crisis must be rooted in justice – we see action on climate finance as essential to this.

Our next major event takes place on 12 November 2022, as we join in a worldwide day of action. Faith groups will be meeting at St John’s Church, Waterloo at 11.30am. We’ll start with interfaith prayers/reflections, and then make our way together to join the main group at the Shell building.  Please bring your climate justice banners and placards, especially if these reflect your faith and spiritual traditions! And if you can, wear something – clothing, or just a symbol –  that makes your spiritual or faith tradition visible. We want the wider public to know that we’re taking part in this action as a mark of faith.   Timings are as follows:

11.30 Meet at St John’s Church Waterloo (map

12.00 Leave to join march gathering at Jubilee Gardens (map), opposite Shell

1.00 Main march sets off

2.30 Arrive at Trafalgar Square (map) for speeches

4.00 Finish

This makes for quite a long day, so please be aware that anyone who needs to rest and refresh themselves will be welcome to call in at St John’s for a break. There’ll be somewhere to sit, rest and reflect or pray, plus of course toilets and tea/coffee will be on hand. We’re planning to have a similar space available near the end of the march,  and we’ll let you know the details on the day.

If you’re not in London, our friends at Global Justice Now have compiled this excellent list of events happening on that same day, elsewhere in the UK….

Head to the Climate Justice Coalition website for times and meeting points, or follow the links to take you to the individual Facebook and Eventbrite pages.
